Blue Jays Top Red Sox, 3-0
|
In a well-pitched game between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Boston Red Sox, pitcher Brian Hawkins was fantastic. The Toronto left-hander helped his team secure the win, 3-0. Hawkins, now 1-1, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 8, walking 1, and allowing no runs. The first-place Blue Jays now have a win-loss record of 72-37.
The Red Sox had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Blue Jays going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the two-time All-Star Ramon Anguiano came to the plate. Anguiano hit a 3-run home run on a 1-1 fastball from Boston hurler Colin Marko. It was Anguiano's 21st home run of the year.
"Not too many highlights on our side," said losing manager Michael Meagher.
