The Cincinnati Reds and Detroit Tigers played a tight game with the hosts claiming a hard-fought win.

The Cincinnati Reds beat the Detroit Tigers, 3-1. Cincinnati pitcher and New York, native Israel Castillo led the way. Earning the save was Dustin Guerin. He's now cashed in 2 of 3 save opportunities.

In the bottom of the third inning, the Reds grabbed the lead when Steve Carbone rapped a two-out single. Cincinnati was trailing 1-0, when Carbone hit a 2-run single off Malcolm Shelvin to put his team in front, 2-1.

"Every loss stings," said Detroit manager Chris Gasparro. "This one is no exception."

The 'W' lifts Cincinnati's record to 72-36.
