Cardinals Win Nail-Biter in 11
|
The St. Louis Cardinals knocked off the New York Mets, 5-4, at Citi Field. It took 11 innings. Arturo Emiliani was a prime reason St. Louis won. The catcher went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Tony Villa closed out the game, earning his 1st save. St. Louis is now 59-51, while New York is 49-60.
St. Louis needed the clutch hitting of Rich Rivas to seal the deal. The left fielder swatted a solo home run in the top of the 11th inning to put the Cardinals on top, 5-4. For the game, Rivas had 1 home run and 1 single in 6 at-bats.
"I'll play 10 innings, I'll play 20," said Cardinals manager Leyland Thomas. "Whatever it takes to win the ballgame."
