Mariners Deal Yankees 4-1 Defeat

Safeco Field was the site for American League action featuring the New York Yankees and Seattle Mariners.
The Seattle Mariners stymied the New York Yankees, 4-1, at Safeco Field. John Brownfield had a good day at the plate. He was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for Seattle. Seattle reliever Tom Kingman got the win, raising his record to 7-2. Griff Hill was tagged with the loss.
In the first inning, Brownfield had a 2-run home run for Seattle. It was his 22nd home run of the season and put the Mariners on top, 2-0.
"Winning never gets dull," said Brownfield.
The first-place Mariners go to 70-39.
