Yankees Take Tight Tilt, 2-1
|
Adrian Pendleton, despite pitching a good game, was disappointed in the outcome: a tough, 2-1, defeat for the Seattle Mariners at the hands of the New York Yankees at Safeco Field. New York reliever Daisuke Yoshioka picked up the win, upping his record to 6-0. Adrian Pendleton absorbed the loss. Zach Rogers collected save number 35.
New York used the timely hitting of Hugo Vitagliano to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Yankees on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"The old adage is true," said Vitagliano. "Good pitching stops good hitting."
New York is first in the American League East Division with a record of 66-45.
