Mets Get Thrilling 5-4 Win
|
The New York Mets got a hard-earned win over the Atlanta Braves, 5-4, in 11 innings. Joe Hagelin provided some offensive muscle for New York. He went 1-2 with a home run and 3 walks. The last-place Mets bumped their record to 45-67.
Up to bat in the bottom of the 11th, 29-year old catcher Thomas Laviosa had a chance to be the hero. Atlanta pitcher Jaime Cotton wanted to foil that plan. But with one out, Laviosa hit a sacrifice fly. The Mets had themselves a thrilling win.
"They tested our mettle," said Hagelin. "But that's good. It toughens us up."
