Reds Dumped, 13-4, by Chicago
|
The Chicago Cubs easily defeated the Cincinnati Reds, 13-4, at Wrigley Field, with second baseman Tommy Ash a main contributor to the win. He was 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 2 for Chicago. Jérémy Dumont earned the win to go to 12-7. He allowed 4 runs on 6 hits, with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts in 5.1 innings of work. Takaya Tabuchi earned the save for Chicago, his 2nd.
Chayton Buffington, who is on pace for 75 RBI this season, took Cincinnati hurler Curtis Moore deep in the bottom of the first. His 2-run home run put the Cubs on top, 2-1. In all, Buffington had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 5.
"We're in a marathon, not a sprint," Ash said in postgame remarks. "Soon enough, the finish line will be in sight."
The Cubs bumped their record to 63-47 with this latest triumph.
