White Sox Make It 5 Straight with 5-4 Win
|
With second baseman Bill Owry leading the charge, the Chicago White Sox defeated the Toronto Blue Jays, 5-4, at U.S. Cellular Field. Owry, who is tied for 10th in the AL with a .861 OPS, was 3-4 with 3 singles. He scored 2 runs. Bernie Carrillo, now 2-2, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2 innings. Dennis Emmons collected save number 4.
Devin Maurer went 1-3, while adding 2 RBI for Chicago. With one out and the game tied in the bottom of the seventh inning, Maurer, who finished 3rd in the AL in on-base percentage with .419 last year, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Toronto hurler Seth Jinks, he hit a sacrifice fly to give the White Sox a 5-4 lead.
"Winning is great," Maurer said. "It's always just guys picking each other up -- if not me, then the next guy."
Chicago is now 67-46, Toronto 64-48.
