The first-place Oakland Athletics picked up another win.
John Wilson, who finished 5th in the AL in innings pitched with 209.2 in 2105, imposed his will on the Reds from the get-go. Relying mainly on his sinker, the right-hander spearheaded the 3-1 Oakland triumph. Wilson, now 10-4, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 8, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. Nick Rodriquez picked up the save for Oakland, his 29th of the year.
Cincinnati had a runner on 2nd in the top of the eighth. With one out, Michael Draper came to bat, hoping to do some damage. Instead, he struck out. The score remained 3-1, Oakland. The Reds saw their comeback bid fail.
The American League West Division-leading Athletics are 68-45.
