Cubs Stay Hot with Extra-Inning Win
|
The Chicago Cubs took Jim Bartz's best shot and still were able to collect a win at Safeco Field. The final score had Chicago getting past the Mariners, 3-1, in 10 innings. Bartz over 6.2 innings allowed 1 run on 7 hits, while striking out 11. The first-place Cubs have a record of 69-44.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Jake Sanders? The 27-year old left fielder Sanders stroked a 2-run double in the top of the tenth inning to put Chicago up, 3-1. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.
"Pedal to the metal" is how Chicago manager Vin Calia described his team's approach.
