Guardians Topple Orioles, 6-3, as Alvarez Shines
|
Ricky Alvarez led Cleveland to a win over Baltimore. The final score was 6-3. Alvarez collected 2 RBI, while going 4 for 4 at the plate. The designated hitter also scored 2 times. Greg Pence, the winning pitcher, improved to 6-9. He pitched 5.1 innings, giving up 8 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 6 and walking 3. Picking up his 21st save was 26-year old right-handed pitcher Pablo Iglesias.
Tied up with the Orioles in the top of the fifth inning, the Guardians got a boost from right fielder J.J. Kirby. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Kirby saw a 1-1 fastball from Dave Christie and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Cleveland on top, 3-2.
"It's nice to step up when your team needs you," said Alvarez.
Cleveland has a record of 48-65, placing them last in the American League Central Division.
