The Cincinnati Reds beat the Oakland Athletics, 6-4. Cincinnati pitcher and New Haven, Indiana, native Matt Bell led the way. The winning pitcher was Bell, now 9-8. He tossed 5 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 6. Mike Yates nailed down his 14th save.

Cincinnati used a well-timed hit by Jesus Najera to capture the win. The left fielder socked a run-scoring double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Reds ahead, 2-1. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.

"I made some pitches when I had to," said Bell.

Oakland has now lost 8 consecutive games.
