Cleveland Bats Quiet in 6-1 Loss
The Cleveland Guardians had their hands full with New York Yankees starter Dan Simon, who frustrated Cleveland hitters while leading New York to a comfortable, 6-1 win. The winner was Simon. He threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball. The loser was Bobby Quinn. The last-place Yankees are now 46-67, the Guardians 56-59.

The Yankees got a big at-bat from first baseman Nick Rich. For the game, Rich was 1-4 with a home run and was hit by a pitch, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 18th home run of the season gave New York a 2-0 lead.

"I liked our effort," said Yankees manager Mike Hanson.
