Mariners Claim Late Win
|
A 3-RBI performance from designated hitter Todd Frank, who finished 4th in the AL in slugging percentage with .583 in 2108, led the Seattle Mariners to a win over the Kansas City Royals, 6-3. Tommy Houston got the win, improving to 1-3. He held the Royals to 3 runs on 5 hits over 7 innings, while striking out 2 and walking 2. Seattle, at 59-57, occupies third place in the American League West Division.
Frank had a game-changing home run in the top of the eighth. On a full count fastball from Aaron Oien, he banged a 3-run home run to left-center, giving the Mariners a 5-3 lead. It was the 8th home run of the year for Frank.
Seattle manager Huckleberry O'Day called it "a pretty good win."
