In the 8-4 Minnesota win over Oakland, the impact of Edwin Hernandez was substantial. Hernandez, who is on pace for 93 RBI this season, went 2 for 5 with a home run, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. Joel Kull, who led the AL in wins with 19 in 2107, was the winner. He's now 15-4. The loser was Dean Thomas. With the win, the Twins improved to 58-59.

Minnesota took the lead in the top of the fifth when Hernandez hit a 2-run home run. His 24th home run of the season made the score 5-3, Minnesota.
