Pirates Net 9-2 Win
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates outclassed the Philadelphia Phillies, 9-2, at PNC Park. Jonathan Nelson, who led the NL in on-base percentage with .429 in 2095, was a major contributor for Pittsburgh. Nelson went 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Russ Einhorn, the winner, is now 13-3. He struck out 4 and walked 3 over 5.2 innings, while allowing 2 runs on 7 hits. The first-place Pirates now have a record of 70-46.
The Pirates got a big boost from left fielder Tadashi Kawahara who had a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the first inning off Phillies hurler Pete Lanning. It was his 37th walk of the season and put Pittsburgh on top, 3-2.
"This win gets us that much closer to where we want to be," Kawahara said in postgame remarks.
