Royals Fall Short, 2-1, at Oakland
|
In a tight contest between the Oakland Athletics and the Kansas City Royals, Rob Lewey was the determining factor. The Oakland left-hander sparkled in his team's 2-1 win. Lewey picked up the win for Oakland, going 7.1 innings. He gave up 1 run on 8 hits. He now sports a record of 11-7. The Athletics sit in third place in the American League West Division with a record of 64-52.
Alex Moncivaiz had a big solo home run for the Athletics in the bottom of the third inning. With Oakland leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he got a fastball from Mike Mask, who is tied for 4th in the AL in quality starts with 14, and swatted a home run to left-center. It was his 15th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Athletics ahead, 2-0.
"Rob looked very determined to have a good game," said Oakland manager Jon Pearson. "He was totally focused and he produced."
