In a low-scoring contest between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox, Bob Lattimer was the X factor. The New York right-hander spearheaded the 3-1 win. The win puts the Yankees at 48-69, while the Red Sox drop to 62-56.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Yankees had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fourth, when catcher Bill Lopez hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Eric Huffman and made the score 2-1, Yankees. Lopez was 1-3.
Said losing manager Michael Meagher: "We've got to find a way to push a run across."
