Red Sox Drop Close One Late
|
Boston got a terrific performance from pitcher Steve Johnson, but it wasn't enough to beat the New York Yankees. New York won the Yankee Stadium contest, 4-3. Johnson threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. The win elevated the Yankees to 72-48.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when New York pinch hitter Hugo Vitagliano, facing John Curtis, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the Yankees the 4-3 win.
"Winning in the last at-bat, there's nothing else like it," said Vitagliano.
