Hendry Swats 2 Homers, Mariners Top Tigers, 7-2
|
With third baseman Evan Hendry leading the charge, the Seattle Mariners defeated the Detroit Tigers, 7-2, at Comerica Park. Hendry, who is on pace for 88 RBI this season, was 3-4 with 2 home runs, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. Seattle pitcher Ron Payne got the win. He's now 3-13. Justin Frantz was tagged with the loss. Jose Jasso picked up his 1st save of the season.
Seattle used a clutch at-bat from Brian Salvatierra to capture the win. The second baseman hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Mariners ahead, 7-2. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"We put our best foot forward tonight," said a smiling Hendry.
The Mariners now have a mark of 39-82.
