The New York Yankees picked up a win at Yankee Stadium, topping the Toronto Blue Jays, 7-4. On the mound for New York was left-hander Bryan Brown. He played a principal role in the triumph. Brown, now 10-10, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 6, walking 1, and allowing 4 runs. By defeating Toronto, the last-place Yankees improved to 47-72.

Bernie Lamadrid had a big bases-clearing double for the Yankees in the bottom of the third inning. With New York leading 3-0 and the bases loaded, he got a sinker from fireballing left-hander Steve Makeever and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 16th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Yankees ahead, 6-0.

"In baseball, you have your ups and downs," said Toronto manager Dan Silva. "You just try to stay level-headed the whole time."
