Rays Dumped, 7-3, by Baltimore
|
Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays.
The inspired effort of Tampa Bay shortstop Paul Shapiro was not enough to prevent a loss, 7-3, to the Baltimore Orioles. Shapiro was 2-4 with 2 home runs. Jonathan Dooley was the winner in relief. His record is now 2-2. The losing pitcher was Eddie Melendez.
Joseph Thomson had a big solo home run for the Orioles in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Baltimore leading 2-1 and the bases empty, he sized up a fastball from 31-year old right-handed pitcher Eddie Melendez and punished it. The result was his 6th home run of the season, which put the Orioles on top, 3-1.
"Nice to keep stacking the wins," said Thomson.
Baltimore is now 66-56.
