Tigers Sneak Past Nationals, 2-1
|
The Washington Nationals got a sterling performance from pitcher Thomas Strange, but the Detroit Tigers still prevailed, 2-1. Strange threw 7.0 innings allowing 1 runs. Jeremy Coffen closed the door for Detroit, picking up his 3rd save of the year. Detroit has a record of 57-65, placing them 4th in the American League Central Division.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Mike Knighten came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Washington pitcher Dave Driskill, he hit a 2-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Detroit on top, 2-1.
Knighten said his team "played with determination."
