Rays Get Gritty, 3-2 Win
|
The home team gave the crowd some walk-off drama.
The Tampa Bay Rays topped the Baltimore Orioles, 3-2, in American League action at Jon Nunez Sr. Stadium. The standout performance belonged to Tampa Bay pitcher and Greensboro, North Carolina, native Jake Alvarado. Tampa Bay reliever Edgar Gines got the win, raising his record to 8-2. Dave Newton was tagged with the loss.
Andy Molina was the walk-off hero for Tampa Bay. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Rays pinch hitter hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"I put my work in and trusted the process," said Alvarado.
Tampa Bay is 54-70 and Baltimore, with the loss, 63-61.
