The Oakland Athletics beat the Houston Astros, 5-4, at Minute Maid Park. Matt Juhasz, who finished 5th in the AL in runs with 120 last year, starred for Oakland. He was 2 for 3 with a triple and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The Athletics sit in first place in the American League West Division with a record of 73-53.

Oakland used the timely hitting of Carlos Marriott to capture the win. The second baseman socked a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Athletics ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a big one.

Despite the victory, Marriott was prickly with assembled media after the game. He said only that he was "happy with the win."
