Cardinals Beaten By Reds, 9-3
|
The Cincinnati Reds defeated the St. Louis Cardinals, 9-3. First Baseman Michael Draper deserved a large share of the credit. Draper went 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 and driving in 2 for the Reds. Dan Costello picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 4-1. Steve Gbur was tagged with the loss. The Reds improved their record to 78-46 by beating St. Louis.
Javy Castaneda had a big 2-run double for the Reds in the bottom of the first inning. With Cincinnati leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a knuckle curve from 24-year old right-handed pitcher Steve Gbur and swatted a double to right. It was his 28th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Reds ahead, 3-0.
"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager BJ Gorman said.
