The Kansas City Royals scooped up a win at Kauffman Stadium, dumping the Houston Astros, 3-2. Mark Ashford, the 11th overall pick in the 2109 draft, was essential to his team's success. Picking up the save was 29-year old right-handed pitcher Ryan Washington. With the win, the Royals improved to 62-67.
Andy Morgan had a big solo home run for the Royals in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Kansas City leading 2-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a sinker from 27-year old right-handed pitcher Yao-pang Yun and punished it. The result was his 19th home run of the season, which put the Royals on top, 3-0.
Morgan attributed the win to his team's "collective resolve."
