The Houston Astros withstood an impressive performance by Kansas City shortstop Danny Bonilla to defeat the Royals, 9-2, at Kauffman Stadium. Bonilla was 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The winning pitcher was Manny Rice. He's now 9-10. He went 7 innings, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits for the Astros.

The Astros got a lift from center fielder Roy Lazzaro, who in the top of the second hit a run-scoring double. His 17th double of the season put the Astros on top, 2-0.
