Cubs Rally to Win, 4-3
|
The Chicago Cubs snuck past the Atlanta Braves, 4-3, in 13 innings. Chicago pitcher Matt Whitlatch, in particular, had a standout performance. Joel Duffy, now 3-3, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. The win lifted the Chicago record to 73-56.
Chicago used the clutch hitting of Manuel Jimenez to snag the win. The first baseman drilled a solo home run in the top of the 13th inning to put the Cubs ahead, 4-3. It was his lone hit in 6 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.
"The bar for us is not a particular opponent, it's ourselves," said Chicago manager Vin Calia.
