The New York Mets downed the Cincinnati Reds, 9-7. The hitting star was first baseman Grant Goff. Goff was 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for the Mets. New York reliever Mike Race picked up the win, raising his record to 1-0. Bryan Brown was tagged with the loss. At 60-70, the Mets find themselves in 4th place in the National League East Division.

With New York leading 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth, Goff batted against Cincinnati pitcher Bryan Brown. Goff hit a cutter to left-center for a 2-run home run. His 37th home run of the season put the Mets on top, 6-3.

Goff said his wife shared good advice with him before the game. "She said, 'Don't allow this game to make you mad.' When I thought about it, I realized this is just a game. I was able to relax at the plate."
