Phillies Slap 6-5 Loss on St. Louis
St. Louis right fielder Fernando Contreras had a good game, even if his team did not. The Cardinals dropped a 6-5 decision to Philadelphia at Busch Stadium. Contreras went 2-4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Ben Zapata, the winning pitcher, improved to 13-7. He pitched 7.1 innings, giving up 6 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 2 and walking 4. Joseph Woodley got the save, his 1st in 4 chances.

The result might have been different, had it not been for 31-year old right fielder Brendan Keyes. Keyes had a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Phillies ahead, 6-3. For the game, Keyes had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

Keyes told a local reporter: "My job is to go out and play as hard as I can."

The Phillies improved their record to 54-77 with the win over St. Louis.
