Red Sox Drop 2-1 Decision
|
In a low-scoring contest between the Detroit Tigers and the Boston Red Sox, Seth Thornton, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2102 draft, proved to be the difference. The Detroit left-hander earned props for his performance in the 2-1 Tigers win. Thornton yielded 1 run over 5.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5. His record improves to 5-2. The third-place Tigers sport a record of 69-62.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Tigers had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the third, when right fielder Daniel Pereyra hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Sam Cardwell and made the score 2-1, Tigers. Pereyra went 2-4 with a double. He drove in 2 runs.
"Tough loss," said Boston manager Michael Meagher. "The kind that burns a little inside."
