Red Sox Take Down Blue Jays, 5-3
|
Boston registered a win at Fenway Park by beating the Toronto Blue Jays, 5-3. Pitcher Sam Cardwell was one reason why the Red Sox triumphed. In 6.1 innings, Cardwell surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 2. He allowed 2 runs. After today's action, Boston sits at 61-72, while Toronto falls to 73-61.
Casey Keasling had a big run-scoring double for the Red Sox in the bottom of the second inning. With Boston leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from 28-year old right-handed pitcher Eric Ferguson and swatted a double to center. It was his 18th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Red Sox ahead, 2-0.
"Our offense was purring," said Boston manager Michael Meagher. "Like a well-oiled machine."
