Phillies Deny Padres, 4-3
|
Philadelphia parlayed a decent outing from starter Ben Zapata into a solid win over the San Diego Padres. The final score was 4-3. Zapata, now 8-13, was the winner. In 5.1 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 6, walking 1, and allowing 3 runs. The save went to David Trahan, his 4th this season.
Philadelphia right fielder Travis Wilson contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the first. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a 2-run single. It was his 106th hit of the season and put the Phillies ahead, 3-0.
"It's always nice to be on the winning side," Wilson told the Philadelphia Bulletin. "But we take nothing for granted."
The Phillies now have a record of 56-76 with the win over San Diego.
