Phillies Get 14-Inning Win
|
The Philadelphia Phillies in 14 innings beat the New York Mets, 5-1, at Citi Field. Starting pitcher Carlos Martinez was a major factor, holding his opponents in check all game. The winner was Mike Middleton in relief. His record improves to 4-2. Gil Hormann took the loss. Philadelphia sits in third place in the National League East Division at 66-68.
Philadelphia went up, 2-1, on Jaden Haynes's 23rd double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Haynes hit in the top of the 14th, made New York pitcher Gil Hormann grimace.
Haynes told a Philadelphia Gazette reporter that he felt "ecstatic" after the win.
