The Pittsburgh Pirates got a superb performance from pitcher Ryan Person, but the Atlanta Braves still won the game, 6-3. Person threw 6.0 innings of 4-hit ball. Atlanta reliever Tim Hall picked up the win, upping his record to 4-7. John Berglund absorbed the loss. Picking up the save was fireballing left-hander Bill Hanley.
Atlanta third baseman Jared Griesbach produced at a critical juncture. It happened in the top of the eighth with Kyle Nichols on the mound and Atlanta leading 4-3. Griesbach drew a walk, driving in 1 run.
"I'm just out there trying to have as much fun as I can while I'm playing," Griesbach told the Atlanta News.
The Braves sit in second place in the National League East Division with a record of 66-68.
