Oakland Rallies to 3-2 Win
|
The Oakland Athletics did just enough to sneak past the Tampa Bay Rays, 3-2, at O.co Coliseum. Oakland pitcher Robby Thienes, in particular, had a standout performance. Josh Zapfe, now 1-4, was credited with the win in 0.1 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 0 and walking 0. Nick Rodriquez finished the game for Oakland and earned his 32nd save.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Erick Soto came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Tampa Bay pitcher Casey Reavis, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Oakland on top, 3-2.
"Robby had himself a pretty good evening," said Oakland manager Jon Pearson.
The Athletics now own a record of 65-68.
