Tigers Sneak By White Sox, 4-3
|
The Detroit Tigers beat the Chicago White Sox, 4-3, at Comerica Park. Mel Garcia, in particular, was impressive. He went 2-2 with a double and 3 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Bill Whittaker earned the save for Detroit, his 23rd of the year. With the victory, the Tigers record stands at 68-67.
Garcia had a game-changing double in the bottom of the eighth. On a full count sinker from Jason Brown, he banged a run-scoring double to center, giving the Tigers a 4-3 lead. It was the 14th double of the year for Garcia.
"Mel leaves the last at-bat behind him, whether it was good or bad, and goes up there and competes on every pitch," said Detroit manager Chris Gasparro.
