Cardinals Claim Late Win
|
The St. Louis Cardinals picked up a win at Great American Ball Park, topping the Cincinnati Reds, 5-4. On the mound for St. Louis was right-hander Jason Weisel. He played a principal role in the triumph. The save was credited to Benny Morgan, his 1st. The setback makes Cincinnati 74-62.
St. Louis used the timely hitting of Markevian Gravel to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a 2-run single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Cardinals on top, 5-3. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Jason was throwing with conviction," said St. Louis manager Leyland Thomas.
