Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Giants
O.co Coliseum was the site of an exciting ballgame between the San Francisco Giants and Oakland Athletics.

Andy Cote was superb against Oakland. The right-hander, who is on pace for 263 strikeouts this season, had a fastball that was virtually unhittable at times. The result was a Giants victory. The score was 6-5. Alexis Mendoza recorded the save for San Francisco, his 35th of the season.

San Francisco used the timely hitting of Carlos Lopez to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Giants on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

Lopez told the San Francisco Citizen: "I'm the straw that stirs the drink."

At 87-49, the Giants claim first place in the National League West Division.
