Mets Lose at Home, 7-4
|
Jeff Margolis was a major contributor to the 7-4 Pittsburgh win over New York. The Pirates shortstop was 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Pittsburgh pitcher Monte Acosta earned the win, hiking his record to 11-6. Sean McNees suffered the loss. Earning his 36th save of the year was Willie Lopez.
Pittsburgh used a well-timed hit by Raul Rodriguez to capture the win. The center fielder socked a bases-clearing double in the top of the third inning to put the Pirates ahead, 5-2. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"It's always nice to be on the winning side," Rodriguez told the Pittsburgh Observer. "But we take nothing for granted."
The National League East Division-leading Pirates are 82-54.
