The Houston Astros got a sterling performance from designated hitter Matt Jones, but the Oakland Athletics still prevailed, 9-7. Jones went 2 for 5 with 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. The win went to Phil McInnis in relief, making him now 6-2. Jim Norris took the loss for Houston. Nick Rodriquez closed it out for Oakland, earning his 31st save.

Oakland won the game in part because of Justin Dunsmore. The third baseman ripped a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Athletics ahead, 6-4. For the game, Dunsmore had 1 double and 1 home run in 3 at-bats.

"Good win for us," said Dunsmore. "Now we'll focus on the next one."
