Cincinnati got a terrific game from designated hitter Hideyuki Takahashi. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to San Diego, 7-6. Takahashi was 2-3 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Tim Rogge earned the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 1.1 innings. He upped his record to 5-1. At 87-48, San Diego is in first place in the National League West Division.

Mike McNamara contributed a productive at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With a runner on 1st, he hit a double. His at-bat helped San Diego get the win.

"If we play well, we'll win our share of games," said McNamara. "The only team that can beat us is us."
