The Pittsburgh Pirates picked up a win at Citi Field, knocking off the New York Mets, 5-0. On the mound for Pittsburgh was left-hander Josh Schumann. He played a key role in the triumph. Pittsburgh has now won 3 straight, while the Mets have lost 4 in a row.
Pittsburgh used a clutch at-bat from Kurt Villarreal to capture the win. The designated hitter hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Pirates ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
Pittsburgh manager Merlyn Evans commended his team for "doing what it takes to win."
