Mets Scratch Out 2-1 Win
|
The New York Mets beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 2-1, at Citi Field. Starting pitcher Stephen Straka was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. Straka, now 10-10, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 6, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. Andy Anderson closed the door for New York, picking up his 3rd save of the year.
In the bottom of the sixth, New York designated hitter Omar Gomez put his team on top. With two out and a runner on 2nd, he hit his 15th home run of the year. Pittsburgh pitcher Bobby Keever served it up. Just like that, the Mets were ahead, 2-1.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Straka told the New York Daily.
New York is now 52-85, Pittsburgh 69-68.
