The Detroit Tigers powered past the Houston Astros, 9-5, at Comerica Park. Casey Peterson was 2-5 with a home run. He scored 2 times and drove in 5, to lead the charge. Mike DeRieux earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. He upped his record to 8-3. Detroit is now 70-67, Houston 56-82.

Peterson had a key at-bat for Detroit in the bottom of the first. With runners on 1st and 2nd, he hit a 3-run home run. It was his 13th home run of the season and gave Detroit an early 3-0 lead.

"We came in and got the job done. That's what it's all about in this business," said Peterson.
