Tigers Jolt Royals, 4-0, with Late Rally

Kansas City got a valiant performance from pitcher Hugo Coates, but it wasn't enough to beat the Detroit Tigers. Detroit won the game, 4-0. Coates threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. The win went to Kenneth Jones in relief, making him now 8-4. Chris Hardy took the loss for Kansas City. With the win, Detroit raised its record to 70-67.
Detroit used the timely hitting of Mike Collings to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Tigers on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We had some nice at-bats at the right time," said Tigers manager Chris Gasparro.
