Nationals Win Nail-Biter
|
Cincinnati wasted a solid 6.2-inning effort from starting pitcher Curt McMahon, losing to Washington, 2-1, at Great American Ball Park. Reliever Alvin Janosky picked up the win. His record improves to 7-4. Franklin Ayala took the loss. Picking up the save was Matt Arnett. He's now 1 for 3 in save chances.
Danny Agurkis, who is tied for 5th in the NL in doubles with 38, chipped in a run-scoring sacrifice fly for Washington in the top of the 12th. For the game, the third baseman had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 RBI.
"Our pitching was the difference tonight," Agurkis said.
Washington has run its win streak to 4 straight.
