Vitagliano, Yankees Too Much for Blue Jays
|
The home crowd had a good time watching the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees get after it.
The New York Yankees topped the Toronto Blue Jays by a score of 9-4. Leading the way was third baseman Hugo Vitagliano. Vitagliano went 3 for 4 with a home run and a triple. He scored 2 times and drove in 4 for the Yankees. Chase Gifford, the winning pitcher, improved to 6-9. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 7 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 6 and walking 2.
New York pinch hitter Jaden Coley helped the Yankees go up, 5-4, in the bottom of the seventh inning. With the game tied, Coley hit a run-scoring single off Toronto pitcher Steve Makeever.
"You've got to ride the highs and the lows in baseball in order to succeed," Vitagliano told the New York Citizen. "Right now I'm feeling good, but that don't mean squat for tomorrow."
The win has New York at 53-83.
