Twins Sting Cardinals, 6-0
|
The Minnesota Twins got a stellar effort from pitcher Danny Ahlers, helping Minnesota score a win over the visiting St. Louis Cardinals, 6-0. Ahlers, now 3-2, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 5, walking 0, and allowing no runs. Minnesota is in second place in the American League Central Division with a record of 74-66.
The Cardinals had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Twins going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 25-year old left fielder Bill Widby came to the plate. Widby hit a run-scoring double on a 1-0 fastball from St. Louis hurler Rob Mansfield. It was Widby's 28th double of the year.
"Feels good to get the job done," Ahlers said after the game.
