Orioles Turn Back Detroit, 5-3
|
The Detroit Tigers got a superb performance from pitcher Brian Bieber, but the Baltimore Orioles still won the game, 5-3. Bieber threw 5.0 innings of 1-hit ball. The victory gives Baltimore a record of 78-62.
John Healey had a big 2-run home run for the Orioles in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Baltimore leading 3-1 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a fastball from 24-year old right-handed pitcher Roberto Perez and punished it. The result was his 26th home run of the season, which put the Orioles on top, 5-1.
After the game, Baltimore manager Art Matlock applauded the team's effort. "We put some good AB's together," he said.
