Toronto Blue Jays starter Brian Raymer hurled his team past the Washington Nationals, 7-2. Raymer yielded 2 runs over 7.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 8. His record improves to 7-4. The victory gives Toronto a record of 79-62.
Jonathan Thompson, who finished 5th in the AL in on-base percentage with .400 in 2107, took Washington hurler Erik McFadden deep in the bottom of the first. His 3-run home run put the Blue Jays on top, 3-0. In all, Thompson had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 3.
